Aiming for excellence in all aspects of Equine health and training.
My horse training journey started at the age of 8, with a Shetland pony, who quickly taught me how fast a horse can develop a habit. He learned that if he just turned his hind quarters towards me when I would try to catch him, he could avoid being caught as he had me believing he would surely kick me. Without a horsey family or mentor to guide me in those early days I begun to figure out many interesting aspects of horse psychology through my own research and lots of trial and error. My second pony (a green broke 2-year-old Welsh pony) taught me how absorbent a young horses mind is and how beneficial it was spending quality 1 on 1 time with my horse to teach good habits rather than bad. I managed to rehome her after a few years when I outgrew her and sold her for a significant amount of money (or so it seemed to me as 12-year-old) and bought another and repeated the process over and over getting quicker and more efficient with my training with every horse I handled as well as learning how to overcome a variety of issues that many horses face.
I learned how to trim hooves and how to start a horse under saddle. I started being offered work “breaking in”, trimming and generally helping people in any way with their horses.
I went on to compete in many rodeo events with my horses having some success in breakaway roping and barrel racing. I was fortunate enough to get to mentor under an incredible Australian champion breakaway roper as a teen, which ignited my passion for the sport.
I was also given an opportunity to get some of the young Arabians I started out to their first few endurance rides. I have also dabbled in a few of the other equine disciplines over the years such as pony club, Obstacle and stockman’s challenges, cowboy dressage, more recently cutting and camp drafting as well as reining and ranch riding.
In 2021 I left the comfort of home, friends and family to pursue a career as a pen rider in South Australia. I took my 2 Quarter Horse geldings, Jet and Mallee on the journey, and we worked there for 2 years. This was an eye opening experience and I was fortunate enough to be offered some extra paid work riding a few more horses in the feedlot, some of which were highly trained cutting and camp drafting horses, other were greener types. Opening and closing gates and drafting cattle on horse back all day quickly taught me the importance of having a “well broke” horse as the job was painful and borderline impossible without them.
I also got to spend a few months on a station in central North Queensland giving me more of a look at the mustering and camp-drafting scene.
My goals as a horsewoman are ever growing, I have a thirst for knowledge and love sharing what I know with people as I have seen such incredible results.
I am forever grateful to the supporters on my business who have trusted me with the care and training of their horses, allowing me to continue to hone my skills while also providing useful services.
